In a team collaboration, we created a sustainable printed magazine to highlight food, experiences, and souvenirs of Florence, Italy.
Our objective while working on this project was to deeply understand the things in Florence that make it wonderful, sustainable, and memorable. Furthermore, we wanted to educate. Our goal was to not only educate ourselves, but also the readers of the magazine. We aimed to highlight a slower way of navigating the city of Florence. It’s all about taking your time, enjoying the present moments, and cherishing the memories while exploring new things. We decided the process of creating the magazine should reflect the same values. We spent time with local printers, finding the best paper for printing. We researched, visited, and got to know the people and places mentioned in the magazine. We diligently worked together to produce a memorable magazine.
The three main resources for the infographic are listed below:
Farrell, Helen, ed. The Florentine no. 294, November 2022.
Local sustainable printer in Florence, Italy.
Italy sourced agricultural waste paper, algae paper, bamboo paper, and recycled paper.
Our team decided to style this magazine in a fun, bold, yet informative way. The magazine feels first and foremost, creative and expressive. The magazine is sprinkled with quirks that threads a unique, approachable personality throughout the magazine.
Specifically, we chose a font from a local type foundry in the Santa Croce neighborhood of Florence, Zeta Fonts. The font brings a Florentine flair to the design that is ownable to the Prego Magazine.
Prego has many meanings. The magazine carries all these versions of the word:
You’re welcome - As if Florence is responding to the reader saying “Thank you”
Come in - A welcoming invitation to read on
Please - like “Please, sit down and make yourself comfortable.”
